Omar Earns McCall MacBain Regional Award

University of Richmond graduate Mahnum Omar (BS '24) has earned a $10,000 McCall MacBain Regional Award to pursue her next degree in Canada. This scholarship recognizes students who have demonstrated exceptional character, community engagement, leadership potential, entrepreneurial spirit, academic strength, and intellectual curiosity. The funding can be used to enroll at any public university in Canada.

Mahnum studied Mathematical Economics at the University of Richmond. She works in Pakistan as a data analyst and digitalization head, leading a team of six.

For several years, Mahnum has been teaching data science classes at a school in Pakistan. She also co-founded an initiative to provide sanitary pads to girls, coordinated projects for the South Asian Student Alliance, and participated in a Bollywood dance group on campus. In addition, Mahnum served on the board of the Mathematical Economics Leadership Society.

Mahnum is applying for master's programs in management analytics. She hopes to use data to improve agricultural practices and production.

The McCall MacBain Scholarships are the result of a landmark C$200 million gift in 2019, then the largest single donation in Canadian history, by John and Marcy McCall MacBain.

Applications will open in June 2025 for the 2026 cohort. More information about the McCall MacBain Scholarships can be found at mccallmacbainscholars.org.
