National Fellowship Applicants Honored
Students who applied to national or international scholarships and fellowships during the 2021-2022 academic year were honored in a reception at President Hallock’s home on April 11, 2022.
The student honorees were recognized for their dedication in applying for national awards. They hailed from a variety of class years and academic majors. The reception was also attended by President Hallock, his spouse Tina Hallock, his son Tyler Hallock, and staff from the Office of Scholars and Fellowships.
In his remarks, President Hallock emphasized the courage required to pursue a competitive opportunity like the Fulbright U.S. Student Program, the Gilman Scholarship, or the Goldwater Scholarship. Regardless of the ultimate outcome, he emphasized the value gained in simply applying. Applicants sharpen their academic and professional goals, strengthen relationships with faculty mentors, and learn how to write personal statements.
Ultimately, it is the goal of the Office of Scholars and Fellowships for each student to learn and grow through the fellowship application process regardless of whether they receive an award. The reception was a fun occasion to celebrate students’ efforts this past year.
The Office of Scholars and Fellowships advises University of Richmond students and alumni on national scholarship and fellowship applications. We encourage potential applicants to join us at an upcoming info session, schedule an advising appointment, or reach out to fellowships@richmond.edu for more information.
